Wine Auction Results, Analysis & Statistics  from Zachys Wine Auction Hong Kong on Friday 2022-12-16

Zachys is one of the largest wine auction houses in the world.

Nevertheless, it is always impressive how they turn perfection into normality.

Once again the wine auction in Hong Kong was fantastic, once again the wines offered were so rare and the best the world of wines had to offer.

The selection of wines from Domaine Leroy was unique and the wine cellar of an investment banker was also stocked with rarities.

Zachys writes the following about this auction in the presentation

The Ultimate Leroy Collection began decades ago, when our collector acquired a private cellar that contained a vast collection of Domaine Leroy. He got curious and pulled out his first bottle of Leroy and took a sip. And that is how his Leroy-collecting journey began. Fast forward thirty years, he now has one of the most impressive collections of Domaine Leroy in the world! As you can see in the catalog, all wines are in top-notch condition; levels and colours are pristine for their respective ages. This extraordinary offering was meticulously sourced from reputable wine merchants and auction houses, and all were kept in a professional wine storage facility before removal for this very special, once in a lifetime sale. This is truly a sale where we can say every lot is a highlight.  

Meanwhile, the second auction is about everything else (though admittedly there’s a bit of Domaine Leroy here too). We kick off with a collection of Pristine Lafite Rothschild and Carruades de Lafite from a Close Friend of the Rothschild Family (Lots 148-159) before moving into The Banker’s Cellar (Lots 195-308): a spectacular collection of DRC, Armand Rousseau, Domane Leroy, Sylvain Cathiard, Prieuré Roch, and many more. Then there’s another important collection once again from our dear friend, with Top Notch Bordeaux and Burgundy from an Avid Collector (Lots 309-362), Exceptional Burgundy and Bordeaux from a Long Time Collector (Lots 363-402), Part V of the Cellar of an Exceptional Burgundy Collector (Lots 403-430), and finally Rare Burgundy, Rhône and Italian Gems (Lots 511-614), for those looking for wines beyond the top names of Burgundy.

Wine price records and all-time high prices at Zachys wine auction in Hong Kong 2022-12-16

The wine auction set well over 40 new wine price records - here are the top 20

Two bottles of 1999 Leroy Corton Renardes size 750 ml, was valued with 3.657,00 € per bottle. With a lot of prospective the price rocked until 3.657,00 € per 750 ml wine bottle and realized this fantastic world record for fine wine prices. The result was the second world record for wine prices and because of the wine value on the at I-deal Encheres Vins in which a fine wine price of 3.500,00 € was achieved, the current price increase is at +4,49 % or 157,00 €.

One wine bottle Domaine de la Romanee Conti Romanee Conti vintage 2005 in a 750 ml wine bottle got a new owner for 18.285,00 € per bottle.

The wine with the second best wine value was the 1994 Leroy Musigny. One bottle was traded and got a wine price of 17.066,00 € per 750 ml bottles.

Third rank in wine auction prices got a Imperial Chateau Petrus from the vintage 1987 with a auction value of 11.581,00 € for a 6.000 ml bottle.
